You should weld a massive steel box around your RD/casette and make only two little holes for the chain to come in and for it to go out!!!!!

There *is* a derailleur protector but it usually comes on department store level bikes so... Can't you just get an extra soft derailleur hanger so it bends easier when the derailleur gets hit?

There is the bucket method, or if you have the stuff you can form plastic to th shape. What you do is cut out bit of a plastic bucket and zip tie it over to the chainstay over the derailleur, the point is to stop stciks, roots, rocks being able to hook onto the derailleur. It will not protect from an impact.

You used to be able to get a break away mounting bolt, made from aluminum and drilled through I think. Don't feel bad, way back when I broke 2 xt (pre xtr) rd's in a 2 month period of time.

You can protect the elbow from hitting the frame with half a grip and zip-ties -but you're really just protecting the frame.

The hanger does a good enough job for me...well that is the job to protect the deraillure after all! And it sure does work.

Still kicking.
No deraillieur to hit on a singlespeed.
The best form of protection is to get rid of the thing that needs protection.

Specialized makes a derailleur protector (originally speced on the Demo and SX Trail) that works with threaded axles. I used one until I switched to an different hub/axle. I believe some other companies are producing similar items as well.

Check one out here: https://www.therapycomponents.com/sinner.htm
This is similar in design to the one that Specialized has designed for their Demo/Big Hit/Enduro bikes.

showcase----->hanger banger---->then pick the one you need.
as long as you dont have a 12mm axel it should work fine.
