tyre size to fit 28mm rim
Hi
I've been riding for 6yrs but I've only just started customizing my bike and I had no idea how little i knew about my bike. I;ve just replaced a Mavic X223 disc rim (marked as 559x17, actual outer rim width=23mm actual inner rim width at the beads=17mm) with the Sun SOS "559mm x 28mm" rim (actual outer rim width=28mm, actual inner rim width at the beads=23mm). On the Mavic rim I used to have a Hutchinson Python tyre with the following dimensions: 26x2.00 / 52-559. When I moved this tire to the 28mm Sun SOS rim it does not fit - it looks like its diameter is too small for the rim. Do I have to go to a "fatter" tyre to get the right fit (e.g. 26x2.3+ ???). If this is the case I would expect this to be tabulated somewhere to co-relate rim widths to tyre sizes, but I cant find anything specific on the net. Some dude is saying on the net that as long as the tyre width is 1.8 - 2.2 times the inner rim width you should be fine. But my problem seems to contradict this (SUN SOS: inner rim width of 23mm x 2.2 = 50.6mm = 2in and my tyres are 2.00in, and yet they seem to be too small to fit in the beads properly) Any help will be appreciated.
