IF you lose your balance

Still kicking.
It doesn't matter at all which direction you go down, if you hit just right on either side you will be hurt and the bike will be damaged.

I'd say fall to your left. Seems like you're more likely to hurt yourself on the chainring falling to right if your leg is stuck under the bike still. Happened to me a couple of weeks ago! And the derailler wouldn't be as damaged if you fell to the left.

speaking of falls, its best practice to tuck and roll right? I am fairly sure (from personal experiance) that having your arms out to break your fall also breaks your collarbone in the process...

Falling off of what? Like a jump? Or if you are just sitting there on your bike and you fall over? I don't get it.

I'd rather fall left.
Broke the right side of my hip last year, have to try and even things out.

It matters what obstacles are on either side at the time of the wipeout. If there is a rock pile on right and a sand pile on the left, I bet everyone here knows what side I will bail on.

don't think about it - if I'm going down it's already too late & the side I'm going down on can't be changed.
If you realise yr losing yr balance & have time to decide would it not better to put a foot down ?
I fell quite a few times when I started with clipless, if I lose balance now one foot seems to come down automatically - which is good cause it looked so naff losing yr balance & just tipping over with feet stuck to the pedals...

Exactly what Riles said, if you have no balance, then you dont really get to choose which side to fall on.

I would prefer jumping off the bike to my right, but as mentioned: gravity decides which way you're gunna go.
