Drinks

Wondering what you guys fill you camelbacks with when you guys go riding? I usually fill mine with water. Was thinking about those performance/recovery drinks, do they actually help? And if so what brand would you use/or recommend...gatorade, cyto, powerbar...etc...

I use water, but I would recommend carrying something sugary (like gatorade) in a bottle, incase your blood surgar gets to low or something.

I do water in a camel back, plus gel in a little squeeze-flask-thing. It's so much easier than the individual packets, and much lighter than a water bottle. The only downside is that if you buy a big container of a gel you don't like, you've wasted a lot of cash. Try before you buy.

I use water cause that way it never gets nasty in there. Also I hate only having sweet stuff and nothing to wash it down with. I carry a few emergency gels in my camelback too in case I need a little boost towards the end. I only actually use them a couple of times a season though so packets work fine for me.

use water in the camelbak

and 2x or 2.5x concentrated gatorade in the bottles...or revenge...

one sip bottle goo and a loooong drag on the camelbak is a good
way to modulate your carbon intake for max hammerage

if you want to sugar up a camelbak you haveta
rinse it out within hours of getting home or it'll
grow bad nasties f a s t !@!!

I use water only. I take a couple thermotabs about 30 minutes before for electorlytes and then drink some powerade option after. I carry whole wheat peanut butter crackers for the simple and complex carbs and protien combination.
Ive read its best to drink a lot of fluids about 30-60 min. before or all day the day before a race and to not drink lots when riding or racing.
I tried mixing stuff in my bag but I dont clean it every time and some of the stuff that grows from leaving sugary stuff in there almost growls at me so I just skip the mixture all together and throw the bladder in the fridge after or the freezer for a couple hours before.

Only water in the Hydration Pack. Bottle of Gatorade on my bike, and a few energy bars.

My buddy tried a full camelback with rum and coke on our safe grad, awesome idea but it did not work very well and it kinda messed up the camelback.

I usually just use water but it is nice sometimes to run the 50/50 water gatorade mix

Im curious to know how juice works. The one time I thought It would be awesome to try juice. I was out of breath and my heart was beating, drinking the juice was horrible and the remnants of the juice turned into a sweet pasty feel in my mouth. Ack.

Im surprised no one has suggested cytomax. It got a good rating in mba. I like it.

lol...beer, man thats classic...i want to try like margarita in the camel when i go camping....ohhhh thats glorious....

id say try some crap, do wat u like, if u like water stick to it, i can deal with drinking like 3 litres of tasteless crap so i pput a bit of oj gatorade into mine most of the time.

and mmmm mars bars are great...not really an energy bar but they are awesome. that and nachos or chicken tacos...if u can get those on the ride somehow, or pack them, do it up....soooo much goodness in mexican food.

hehe

I just use water. Used to carry Gatorade (in a bottle), but didn't set well with my stomach (maybe the sugar content?). So just water, and energy bars (Like the Clif ones-not too dry, like some I tried).

Nothing's a miracle producer. All the little helps ie weight savings, energy boosts, etc add up.
