hehe long time no type...2 questions..
 

hey, been a long time since i graced the boards with my presence, stupid college is to much work...comp programming for those who wonder.

anyways, i wanna get some riding in now that i can drive and i wanna maybe upgrade my bike a bit.

two questions are as follows:
1)
i wanna run a disc brake on the front wheel, and avid mech, and i need a new fork anyways, so i was think maybe im gonna buy an 04 rock shox judy or 05, this looks like a nice xc fork, and has 80mm...however, i was thinking about maybe looking for a used sid with adjustable travel and lockout. hope maybe i can get it for under 150ish. opions on whats a better idea???

2) to get a disc brake on the front i have to get new wheelset, i need a disc hub in the front, and hopefully rims that can handle rim brakes in the back, though i wouldnt mind the both to be disc/rim wheels. anyone have any insight on whats good for this kinda setup? thinkin maybe rhyno lites with deore disc hubs.. kinda wanna keep the wheel set price under 175 CAD....gotta save for a laptop and tuition for school. hehe....

Which Rock Shox Judy? There are different models.

tt, i think.

but if i could swing a team or something along those lines i would love it. tt is pretty cheap, and seems pretty solid. just wanna know if anyone has one and uses it, or if there are much better forks around.

oh and when it talks about steerer tube diameter, like 1 1/8 etc, how exactly do i know what i need, and does it vary by the headset u use?

The Judy TT is a pretty crappy fork. Well actually, it will suffice for recreational/light trail riding but that's it. Definately get the SID. The performance of TT is not even remotely close to that of the SID. Also, take a look at the Marzocchi MX Comp w/ ETA. It's a great fork with great value.

P.S. - Upgrading to a Judy TT is like an oxymoron. :p

Wasn't TT their bottom line fork in the past? Definitely get the SID over it if you can swing it and you're only looking into RS.

I agree that a Judy TT does not constitute an upgrade. The Marzocchi Z1/Z2/Z3/Z4 might be a better option. A decent fork is going to run you $200-300, unless you luck out and find something cheap that's also in good shape. I was just looking through T.O. Craig's List, and there's not much to choose from. If you find a used wheelset, you're looking at $100 minimum. With the cost of the Avid brakes themselves, you're starting to creep into whole bike territory. Have you considered selling your bike and replacing the entire thing? It might be the better way to go...

and heh, no chance im gonna get rid of the whole bike, maybe everything but the frame, i really like it..it fits me nicely. my orignal plan was to just make my hardrock frame into a nice comfortable bike for xc, some single track...i dunno maybe other stuff if i have the balls... but i can usually only afford to buy one part at a time with extra money from a few extra hours work....wat with school and all, so i was gonna upgrade one piece at a time. wat about like a used Pyslo? http://cgi.ebay.com/SID-Wolrd-Cup_W0...QQcmdZViewItem

the brakes arent a big deal, just like the idea off being able to stop better, gonna have a month or two off soon, so i wanted to really get some good biking in...


and yes NOFX does rule, tho the newer stuff isnt all that great.

over all tho, i like my bike, i mean i got a sweet ass pair of candy sl pedals for 70$ cad, and im just trying to keep my deal streak alive so to speak, always hunting for cheap ****.

oh and the marzochhi forks are they good for xc/single track, cause i was thinking they dont rebound enough due to them being used mostly for dj and stuff...

oh....what you guys think of manitou forks, like the ones for xc...they seem nice, pretty good reviews...
