Big hits what you like and dont like

im thinking of gettin a big hit.. tell me what you like about yours and what you dont like. Do they skip gears when the suspension bounces (suspension induced shifting)? Are they all only 9 speeds? or is that just the newer ones? If so, are the gears spread out enough for steep climbs and fast downhills? thanks

You need a chainguide as with all long travel bikes. With an e13 drs I did dh on my bike for 2 years without a dropped gear.

Small wheel in the rear(not applicable to 2006) made for seemingly slow speeds but good acceleration. It also made for a very strong rear wheel.

FSR made for decent pedalling and NO brake jack. However the fsr also had a side affect, imo, that reduced how active the suspension was. I couldn't find a balance between small bump sensativity, pedalling and bighits.

Bighit *can* climb but it is a long travel fr/dh bike that *can* climb. It will suck but it is a capable climber.

I found the bike steep (I own an old one) the angles on it were very FR and not dh. Even with an 05 66rc it did not make a slack HA which is ideal for the riding here. This likely changed with the newer versions.

I cant wait to get to the next Crankworx, Berracloth and that 360 40 footer road gap was sick!

Bass with the tail whip off the Gyro trailer was perdy sick too.

I do tend to ride as much as possible.

haha Bearclaw in person is a site to behold...bass doesn't do it for me, great rider though. The 360 made me jump out of my skin, where the tailwhip was his trick last year too

LOL, the Rampage was taken place in a town called Virgin Utah. I think it was a 70ft. I'll watch it tonight and find out.

Back to the original question. The greatest thing about BigHits was the 24" rear wheel. The worst thing about BigHits was the 24" wheel. The 24 made them accelerate well and the short chainstays made them manualing fools. Bottom bracket height was a problem and the 24" wheel got swallowed by big knarley obstacles, holes and square-edge bumps. But, it was a decent way to get a relatively-economical 8" travel bike that pedalled pretty well. Chain growth was not a problem with the FSR four-bar; but as with all FSRs, the clatter of the derailleur banging against the lower pivot area was annoying to many. I solved that with a stick-on helmet fit-pad on the der. body.
