what to do? how do you deal with this.

This morning I found out that my less than 6 months old Cinder Cone is stolen from my front porch. it was locked inside the shaded porch. I am so overwhelmed and speechless....

what do you do in a situation like this? help. I feel soooooo depressed.

I really wish you could shoot people that steal property. Sorry man, I think all you can really do is report it to the police and possibly post some fliers around to see if anyone's seen it. I think I may have read about a website where you could post your stolen bike? I'm not positive but does anyone know?

If you have the booklet with the serial #, you can usually post it with the bike company, which will distribute it to dealers, who will (hopefully) keep an eye out for bikes being brought in for repair. If no homeowner's insurance, renter insurance might cover it, if you have that. Sorry for your loss.....

Keep an eye on ebay and bring your bikes inside from now on. It's most likely some punk kids that will trash it and leave it in the woods. It happened to me twice before I wised up.

this is what they usually do, steal em for parts then sell em. I try to stay away from used ebay stuff and try to lean towards brand new things from some ebay sellers with serial number and such (ie. manual, accesories..etc)

Im considering getting Lojack ( http://www.lojack.com/ ) for my bike.

They do it mainly for cars, but they do it for construction equipment, and other stuff too....so im assuming it can be done for a bike too.

Sorry about your loss man. HOpe you get it back.

Sorry to see your bad news. Even with good coverage, it's a bummer. You can't buy back the 'personality' that your own ride had. But that brings up a good point about insurance: first of all to have some; and secondly, to specifically cover your bike. Especially if you have a good deal invested in it.

You can get a rider to your homeowners policy - - for what's usually called a 'listed property' or a 'scheduled property.' For just a few dollars extra per year, you can insure your big ticket items (computer, expensive mtn bike, etc.) for its full replacement value and not subject to your HO policy's regular deductible. So if you DO get ripped, you can at least afford to replace it. This is something I would recommend to anyone who has put any sizeable chunk into their ride. (And, no, I don't sell insurance)

Kryptonite Locks. If they busted the lock and stole your bike, kryptonite would be sending you a check for a new Kona.

how do I prove that, to Kryptonite? what kind of documentation/evidance do I have to present.

Thanks everyone for all your support. just the fact that I customized the bike to the best of my ability and found the kind of fit that I was looking for in that bike really depresses me. i have not been able to work all day today.

I will take your suggestions and see what kind of solusion I can come up with. thanks again.

you fill out a bunch of paperwork for krypto, including a bike estimate and a receipt. If the bike is stolen, you send in all the evidence you have, and a police report. If everything clears, they send you a check for the cost of the original estimate.
