Review - Break it, Fix it, Ride it
I got the program as a xmas gift. I had requested it and was really looking forward to getting it. I have a full copy of Barnetts manual but I find its pictures and explanations almost useless at times and was hoping for a more user friendly interactive 'ADVANCED' bike mechanics utility to help me in repairing my bike.
Initial Impressions
User friendly for sure but not very advanced. It is a 'replacement' machanics dream but is really missing some key elements that I was looking for. Rebuilding hubs is the biggest one. I realize there is a huge variety of hubs but they could have included some of the more common mtb hubs. They also seem to have neglected a section on freewheel removal let alone rebuild. I do enjoy it and it does have some useful tips but in reality between this forum, Ridemonkey, online barnetts manual and Park tool you have everything and some when it comes to bike maintenance.
In reality this is a fantastic idea and program. It has a number of tips and tricks that can be useful (especially when dealing with tuning of suspension) for anyone but there aren't enough to justify the cost. I am a huge computer geek and love utils like this however it is lacking. If you have a decent sense of mechanic ability you will get everything on this cd without needing the cd. If you are a mechanic tit that this cd will help a lot. I also realize this is a first generation (or so) of this program so it can only improve.
If you aren't even sure what I am talking about, take a look here.
