A sad day

Hello all, it's been a while sense I've been here, but I figured I'd come for some comfort from fellow riders. So this weekend was my birthday (22) and my neighbor (who also shares the same B-day) and I had a great party Sat. night. About 1/2 way through the evening, i realize my mtn. bike is no longer anywhere to be found in the house... yes it could have been worse I suppose, someone could have taken the road bike, but overall I am feeling rather depressed from what should have been a great weekend.

The person who stole a bike from a house party deserves some seriously bad karma.

yeah definately. I mean you expect to get a few CD's stolen but your bicycle?

Are you sure some drunk fool didn't just ride it home to be ''funny'' or some other stupid trick?

Someone may see it in a shop or something.

Sorry about your bike... I'm not sure how it works, but did you think about reporting to the police?

Sorry to hear about that man. Reminds me of the other year when a friend here at college had a party at his place and a couple people stole a ton of stuff from them (digital camera, cell phone, money, etc). Funny thing is they ended up catching the thieves by calling the cell phone and asking who it was and the person actually told them! Hope your deal ends up the same way with you getting your stuff back.

Yeah, that sucks but you might as well put all your efforts on finding the culprit and getting your bike back.

Well, the bike hasn't rode itself back yet, looks like theft, sorry I didn't get back to you all yesterday, things got a little crazy and I started a topic on another...gulp... area of bike-forums, anyway I know this is a hella long shot, but I need to find a detailed component breakdown of an 2001 Schwinn Moab II... my insurance is attempting to tell me that (the adjuster) found a great 2005 Schwinn for like $250.00 and it has way more stuff than my bike!!! WTF I attempted to say that going and looking at Schwinn now is NOT like it was in 01'. The only thing sub par on my ride was the shifters/break leavers and perhaps the BB but I never took it apart to find out what was onboard.... I know the RD was XT, front was Alivio, as the shifters, and breaks were XT. The cranks, stem, bars, and shock are bringing up blanks for me however.

i did think of selling the roadie, but I jsut can't part with her yet, and I don't know if I'd get my money back (couple scratchs on shifters and a small paint chip on frame) I've also been thinking of building a singlespeed for commuting and bad weather rides, however I'd be mtn bikeless most of the summer till i could afford that too.... or i could just go crazy and credit card the whole thing...... but I haven't really been paying much attention to the "new bike" world over the past 3 years and my time for doing research is seriously lacking right now, I picked up Bicycle Buyers Guide a little bit ago just for fun, but it sucked for Mtn gear...

any ideas for good mid/entry level mtn rides, i'd like to keep this under 900 if possible and I've always had a thing for Kona's.... hummm

Yes, well, in Burlington you need to lock **** down too I learned... oh well! I was checking my LBS today for some new wheels, There is a sweet deal on a 2005 Gary Fisher Cake 3, however I feel that might be more bike than I really need... I've been clicking through, and just looked at a Specialized Hardrock that seems really appealing; also at its price I can possibly start my single speed project too!

I had the same thing but reversed happening to me about ten years ago(!). I had a Miyata SkyRunner, this rather heavy carbon fiber bike, which had cost me about $600 in 1994. It got stolen and I claimed on the insurance only expecting the regular $600-excess, but was chuffed to be told that I could pick out a bike for about $1500. From 1994 and 1995 they (Miyata) had come up with a completely new bike, fully XT, new carbon frame etc and it had doubled in price (and probably halved in weight) but they had kept the name. The insurance company had just called up a shop and asked them how much a new Skyrunner was... I got myself a Marin Pine Mt, which lasted me 'til Oct '05 when some thugs bent the frame in trying to steal it.

Oh bummer London!

SO the insurance adjuster called me today to discuss the final check that would be cut. My research, (sent her a complete component breakdown) and many comparable bikes of today, brought the value of my bike up to ......

$840.00!!!!! so after my deductible (which I expected) gets me $340.00 by the end of the week! It's no 800, but hell, new bike here I come!
