Best bike for a daily college-campus rider?

Hey everyone, I am a college student looking to purchase a new bike, which I will be riding everyday around the University of Florida campus. My budget is under $200. I am looking for a bike that is comfortable (lots of bumps in the road), efficient and fast. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on particular types, brands, and models. Thanks in advance.

For college, I would suggest nothing more than a used beater.

Get an older fully rigid mtn bike. You won't need a front suspension and an older one will be shot anyway. At a big school like that, you might even find one for sale on campus.. just look for flyers.. thats what I did (14 years ago). And save some of your money for a decent lock.

Bikes: highly modified specialized crossroads and GT hybrid (really a [formerly] 12-speed bmx cruiser, made before 'hybrid' took on its current meaning), as yet unmodified redline 925, couple of other projects
