On friday, my buddy Peter had his bike stolen. He biked to work, locked it up, and came outside after work and it was gone. He had a Devinci Coyote with a lot of new parts. It's not the greatest bike, but it's still a decent bike.

Anyway, he was devastated. I happened to see a bike that looked just like his bike yesterday, but I hadn't yet been informed that he had it stolen.

So today, I went biking with my friend travis. I told him to be on the lookout for a red bike. We didn't see it, and he headed home. I stayed around downtown, and later went to my grandparents place for Mother's day supper. Great food too. I was offered to be driven with my bike home (which was about 9 kms away) but I refused. I usually would take his offer, but for some reason I didn't.

I left around 6 pm, and I was beatin er home, probably doing about 35 km/h when I saw a red bike with a silver fork in the corner of my eye. Thank god for BB7's. I stopped emmidiately and went to talk to the kid. Sure enough, it was peter's bike. It even had my old fork that I had sold to him for $50. I asked the kid(who was about 9 or so) where he got the bike and he said "My dad got it from some guy dirt cheap." I proceeded to tell him it was my buddy's bike, he wasn't really shocked, but he gave me his number and I headed straight for Peter's place (about 3 kms away). We got there, called the kid, I talked to his dad and told him our predicament. He said we should come identify it and give him some hard evidence. We did, we met up with him quick, but he wouldn't hand over the bike without us giving him the serial number. Peter called his dad, got the number, and went home with the bike around 8 pm.

The guy paid $150 Cdn for the stolen bike too. He just said he didn't want to have a stolen bike in his household. That, and after we talked with him the first time, we went to the police station to report the stolen bike. I should have added that in there...

Hell yeah. A buddy of mine got his bike stolen from his front porch about 6 months ago. It was a brand new Bianchi MUSS, less than a week old. We looked so hard for that thing for weeks; never came up. Then, just two days ago, my buddy pulled up to a party I was at on his MUSS. On his way walking over, he saw his bike on somebody else's porch. There is no mistaking his bike: he had a silver seat and silver King headset. He just took it back. Later when we were good and drunk, we paid a visit to said theif at said house: Justice Served.
There is no excuse for bike theives.

Keep up that super hero work Jason- maybe one day you can start a stolen bike detective agency. There really is NO excuse for bike theives. They seem to get stolen all around the campus here where I live, I never lock my bike within 5 miles of it. The other day I got a flat and called up my Dad and asked him to pick me up, he told me to lock it at the University and we would pick it up later. I picked walking for 45 minutes to buy a new tube rather than leave it there and possibly get it stolen.
