Came close to possibly dying today.
Got out early from work today(Friday's are really slow.) So I went to hit the trails since I had the bike with me, hit Round Valley, since it isn't effect that badly at all from rain. The only wet spots there are on an old trail that isn't really that great so that's avoidable, the Cushetunk drains really well. The ride was going great hit the turn around point and noticed that the sky was really threatening as soon as I got to the one damn, it started going across a dirt bridge when I noticed a flat and as soon as I went to change the tire it started to storm, less than one yard to my right, I hear a loud crack, the chainlink fence got struck by lightning. If it was any further to the left I would have gotten struck. So yes, got caught out in the middle of a severe storm.

Long time ago, a building got struck by lightning when I was walking by it. That must be the loudest sound I've ever heard. Enough to give one a heart attack. It's good to hear you are ok.

Thats good ****.
I've had a couple close ones.. Once soloing a 14er, and when I was about to summit, a monster storm rolled in. And when your up 14000 feet... your in the flockin storm. I could feel all the electricity through out my entire body, the feeling was like nothing else. I had to get as low as possible, and hit the dirt near a boulder and waitied it out. As it rolled through, you could hear it mustering up its insiane power, and see strikes near my base camp.
I was in a park during a rainy day hangin out with a buddy of mine and a bolt hit a tree about 15ft away from us, and nearly killing a hobo in its process. That was a wild one too.. that sound of a bolt that hits near you is frekkin' amazing...

A couple of years ago, my Dad and I were standing in the driveway of my folks house when lightning struck a satellite dish about 2' above our heads. It was the loudest thing I think I've ever heard -- like a gun being fired right next to my ear. It about knocked us down and I had a weird feeling in my eyes, like they were being pricked with tiny needles or something. The next day while my Dad was mowing the grass, he noticed that a section of the molding around the roof had been blown out on the opposite side of the house where the satellite dish is located.

When I was about 7 or so lightning hit a big oak tree in my back yard severing the top 1/4 of it(about 50 ft up), which hung on by the strip of bark still attached. We weren't allowerd to go near that thing till the tree service took care of it. Then at a different house when I was about 13 lightning struck a tree behind THAT house, traveled thru the ground and up the metal pillars of the back porch. I just saw a flash of light and then buzzzzzzzzz. All the energy was absorbed by the porch I'm sure, but between the noise of that and my mom screaming my f'ing right side of my body tingled for hours. The next morning we went out there and there was a 5 foot scar running down the side of the tree.

Lightning is kinda cool. As a kid, I saw ball lightning dance around the yard (freaky!) and was looking the wrong way (argh!!) on a ride when lightning hit and literally blew up an apple tree that was near us. Only other close one was a bolt that hit the ground as we drove past VERY close to the car and kinda almost stopped the old heart. Freaky.
anyway, glad you made it out of your experience. Now go, quick, and get a lottery ticket!

Being the genius that I am, during a large thunderstorm a while back when I was at work, I decided that I'd go outside to see if I could see the tornados that were being mentioned some-odd miles south of us and get a couple pictures (our crappy building was flooding and we had no customers, so why not?). It being my point-and-shoot camera, I set it to "movie mode" (very low resolution) and just wandered around outside pointing the camera toward the storm. No tornados, but some pretty lightning.
Anyway...
Anyway...

I'm seriously glad you're OK. If your laptop was with you then it appears that the Spellcheck and Grammarcheck programs were fried. Bummer.
