Slipping bar ends crushed aluminum bars, preventing?
As a continue to sort through my bike pile... My Miayta came with ultra light, straight Nitto aluminum bars. Previous owner had narrow, very smooth bar ends mounted. Funny thing is that they were slipping even though they were cranked _way_ tight. The ends of the bars were deformed to the point where they looked like necked rifle cartridge cases.
The bar is already super short so a new one is in my future, but I'm wondering how common is this? If you're using really thin bars how can you keep smooth bar ends from slipping without really reefing down on the bolts?

Answer used to make some bar ends that expanded internally , for thin-wall bars like Hyperlites. A solid aluminum slug(from a machine shop ) will prevent the crushing from happening . Or you could move to the Southwest and run wide handlebars.

I can't believe I didn't think of solid inserts. That's a great idea. I have a little machine shop in the basement so I'll have to crank out a few once I get a new bar. Might go into production if there's a market.
Too bad I'm out east. I have a beautiful Specialized Special Rise extra-long riser bar sitting here. Probably would get killed going through the woods. Hmm, anyone wanna swap?
