So, Im A DJ'er....

And Im interested in a new fork. Ive been lookin at the standard DJ models from Marzocchi and Manitou but Ive recently came across theese. https://www.pricepoint.com/detail/137...Freeride-3.htm

Would It be a big mistake to get Freeride fork even though I do mostly Urban and Dirt Jump stuff? I currently have some SR Suntours so Im thinkin anything I get would be a good investment, seeing as how my fork right now is pretty bad.

Great fork. Very solid. In reality there is not much strength diff between the djers and freeride forks. But freeride forks are better suited to more variety of riding. That would be an excellent investment.

As Mael said, very good forks cant really go wrong with Marzocchi forks they're of a very high quality and require very little maintenance. I would say the freerides might be a bit much for the type of riding your doing, for dirt jumping and urban i would want to stick to 100mm. I had 150mm Shermans on my street and jump bike, and although it jumped very well it felt alot better and more fluent once the 100mm dj's went on there, if your riding is very varied by all means go for the freerides they're excellent forks.

But stick to the dirtjumpers IMO.

Ya thats what I was thinkin, 150mm is a bit much but does it actually effect it that much? I probbaly do more urban than DJ so I was thinkin I needed something that could absorb the flat landings pretty well, Hence the 150mm. Thanks for the input though.

I'd stick to 100mm to be honest, maybe something like a pike if you want the travel adjustment, its very good and can be changed from 90mm to 140mm very strong and reliable from what ive heard.

150mm does make a noticeable differerence I found, especailly for dirt jumping the 150mm just soaks up the 'pop' you need off of of a jump where as 10 provides enough travel to get you down safely and doesnt make the bike feel heavy and cumbersome in the jumps.

I'd stay with the 100mm dj forks, when u put too much travel for a dj frame, it can warp the headtube. I'd probably recommend the pike too, u can freeride with it and do whatever. That fork gives u a lot of different choices u can do with it. Try and go with a fork that can adjust your travel for when u freeride and when u dirt jump. 100mm for the dj, like 120mm for urban, and 130+mm for freeride. I think the pike goes from 95-140mm, its only 540, pretty cheap for that much travel, too.

Normally a headtube doesn't 'warp', it can ovalize or snap off. A lot of Dirt jump bikes are fully capable for 150 mm of travel without destroying the frame.

I own a Z1 Fr3, my old fork was 100mm, and this one is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better! It's an amazing fork, definately great for Dirt jumping too. Very solid. Get it if you're into more drops and larger jumps too. Click on the link in my sig to see it.

If you do choose to get the Z1 fr3, and find 150 mm is too much after you get it, you can have it brought down to 130 mm.

Ya, stick to smaller travel forks if you wanna dj more. My all purpose ht has 5" (a bit much for dj) but riding my ht in the first place is much better than my momentum-absorbing fs bike.

I think for an all in one urban, dj, do-everything fork, 4" is optimal.

Ive seen tons of DJ3's but I havnt seen anyone with DJ1's. There on price point for like 300 bucks as well and its 100mm

I love that fork and if you are concerned about 150mm being to much you can also find that fork with 130mm.

150mm is more leaning to Freeride. 100 - 130mm is good.

It's not hard at all. Make sure you don't mess up the headset in doing it. Maybe you should take it to your LBS, and watch them do it if possible.

I figured out the price for the freeride v3's and total whith shipping, taxes, duty at the border it comes out to around $380. Is that a good deal?

(I cant find the Z1's with 130mm anywhere either.)

Yeah, that's not bad. You might be able to find it cheaper on ebay. I got mine on pinkbike (lots of scams there though) for around $275 Cdn. That was a killer steal, and it had only been used twice.
