CB Mallets.....
A week or so back I posted a question regarding clipless pedals..... Lots of great responses for which I am thankful....
After reading up a bit, I noticed that the Crank Brothers Mallet pedals may fit the bill (clipless for climbing and bunnyhopping and platform for going down hills) and descided to give them a shot.
They came today:
Got them on:
Tried them out and all I gotta say is wow! These things aren't just marginaly better than SPDs... they are not even in the same league. Getting in and out of them is so much easier.
The real test will be tomorrow on the trails but so far I am a huge fan.

The "Mallet Club" is a pretty dedicated group. The Mallet is the first real clipless/platform combo that actually work right in that the pedal is actually useful when you have normal shoes on (it's not optimal, but it's useful). The concave shape of the pedal naturally pushes your cleat into it. They're incredibly stable and great for dabs.

so you'd be able to ride them with normal flat sole shoes like five tens or whatever?

Yup... I tried them out with my normal running trainers yesturday and all was well.
Update
Hit the trails today with the new gear and these were just what the doctor ordered.... I really like being able to unclip and have something to stand when there is a need for it. These things really are worth every penny.

mad. my friend just started on clips and he's having his first race with them in lithgow soon. i've always wanted to try them.

Cool, these will be my first upgrade I think also in black.
