Just got back from 2 bike shops

Ok I am doing as much homework as I can and well I went to two major bike shops today.

One had Kona and Rocky Mountain.
-I wasn't too impressed with what they ahd for around $1000, so I moved on to the next one.

The next was a big cycle store in fair oaks, ca.
-They were really informative and let me try out many bikes including gary fisher pirahna, trek 6700, and many others.

The best bike they let me try that i LOVED was the Specialized P2. 26" rims, HYDRAULIC disc brakes, and one gear in front and 7 in back.

I liked this bike a lot and felt very comfortable on it and was easy to jump around and bunny hop and wheelie around (they had some hips and flat driveways I rode around on). The guy was real with me and told me to get what I like, and not look at brands or price tags. I really feel like the p2 would be a great bike.

It is listed for $1,000 and they would throw in $100 of merchandise (camelback and something else is what I would get).

What are your thoughts on this bike and if anyone has it can you give me a good review thanks!

The P2 is a great bike but do keep in mind its a jumping/urban bike and while it will perform well on the trails, jumps and urban sessions is where it feels at home, they would also make great freeride HTs and overall its an aggresive bike for aggresive stuff, I like it but don't expect it to be a great XC monster machine or anything.

If you liked the bike so much... then go for it.

I just felt it would be great for ripping up trails and jumping. Mainly for trails tho, and yes I plan on riding aggressively.

I would pick the Pro Disc All Mountain since I'm not much of an urban/jump guy but whatever feels more comfortable to you is probably the best choice.

I recently bought a 05 p2. The 06 p2's have alot better components. I LOVE my p2, I really mean that. I grew up BMX racing so thats ideal for me. I have been hitting up the local dirt jumps ( I have the bruise to prove it ) as well as downtown. I haven't really taken it off road yet. I am waiting until the ski resorts open back up June 23th. Its definetly not a bike for alot of hill climbing. I can do a fair share but I don't want to be climbing all day.

2 thumbs up, I wish I had the 06

even in the easiest gear im sure it's fine for climbing, but I doubt I will be climbing. I mean I won't be specifically picking climbs, I will just ride whatever comes my way.

It just felt so versatile when I was riding it. and hey the guy said I could always race it in the cruiser class if I wanted . But anyways, yeah when I was riding it ( I rode the aluminum version) I just felt like the bike worked with me. However, I don't want to overlook nice bikes at the $1,000 price point.

I recently rode quite a few bikes in that price range. I'd say my fav was the Gary Fisher Hk. It rode well, but I really loved the Kona Kula Primo....which of course cost a lot more. I was in the market for a XC hardtail. Bought a used 05 Kula Deluxe which i hope to get in the next couple of days!!

If you ride aggresive and like to jump and want a bike you can throw around on the trails as well as urban than the P2 is a great choice.

You might want to test ride some other DJ bikes and see how they feel.

I tried the '06 P.2 last sunday, and I was amazed. It rode amazingly well. The thing would work fine for trails, but it's not meant to be an XC bike, so you'll get tired if you try to take those long treks through the bush. I still do it on my Bruiser, I just bring twice as much water .

My dad just picked up his Kona Kula from a place called Mad Cats on Marconi (https://www.madcatbikes.com/) and he got a great deal on it. You may want to check them out.

If you plan on alot of jumps and drops, get the P2. If not, the rockhopper makes an excellent all rounder, including the occasional jump/drop.

I actually live in Socal, but I used to live in Davis/Sac/Loomis/Roseville and my family is settled up there. I just happened to talk to my dad last night after he got his new bike and he was stoked on that shop.

Maybe I'll hit you up the next time I'm up visiting.

Where is SoCal are you? There are a ton of shops but you do need to know which ones are reliable/trustworthy.
