Is this a good set up?
Hi ive been mountain biking for a year now right now i have a Trek 8000 but its like 5 years old. Im looking to get a new bike by next summer. Ive seen the single speed bikes, like the Rig from Gary Fisher. First i want to ask what are single speed bikes main use for? second of all i like the Rig and i like the Ferrous also from Gary Fisher, now heres what i want to do i want to make the Ferrous just a single speed, is that possible? if anyone has any other single speed bikes that are good tell me or put in a picture thanks and safe riding

Yes its possible to single-speed any bike, the benefits of an SS is simplicity, efficiency, less risk of damaging parts and of course lightweight, singlespeeds are especially useful in applications where gear shifting is almost non existant which is why BMX and Trial bikes are single speeds, people also like it in some other situations but I can't go in detail about that.
