Screw Hayes nines

went out to the garage for liek the 7th time trying to stop the rub on my hayes nines. I am so ready to trash these brakes and get avid juicys.

ok now half of this was my error so i cantbe mad, but i was pumping the piston out to clean it cuz it isnt retracting all the way by itself, and it popped out and fluid came out everywhere. urgg so now when I pull the lever nothing happens or very little pistona ction. I need to take it into the lBS. my dilemma is do I take it into the LBS and have them refil the fluids and bleed them and properly align them, but I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE THIS CONSTANT RUBBING PROBLEM< I think it is pure crap. so if this one time trip to the lbs will fix them thats fine, if not then i would rather put the money towards juicys.

Congratalations.

That is why i specifically TOLD YOU GET YOUR LBS TO DO IT!.

You will need to re bleed, the entire brake (my bleed kit is arriving today thankgod ). This time get the LBS to do it, re-bleed it.

Tell them to lube the piston aswell as re-bleeding. When theyre done you will not have sticky pistons and your brakes will be fine and re-aligned. You should have asked questions before you go an experiment! Like I should have done earlier this week!!

If you bring your bike in to the shop you won't get it back for 11 days?

I know ten times more about fixing silly Hayes problems than my other LBS. Yes, you don't need someone that specializes in fixing them, but it sure helps. Most mechanics I know are amazed at how well I can get a "troublesome" caliper to work like new again. And I ain't telling them my secrets.

I am sorry to hear about your troubles cmktech. For what it's worth, my Nines have never given me problems like the ones you describe.

If you really want to get away from the Hayes, see what the shop will charge to take yours in trade for some Jucy 5s.

They are good for what they are. They are high priced brakes, better then any mechanical brake. But the hydraullic world is and expensive one, and Hayes Nine you will find come stock on many bike from $1000 - $2000AUD bikes. Like i said, they work, but they need adjustment.

Also i just bleed my first rear brake (), and the problem is gone and the lever is how it is supposed to feel. Just needs a good bleed so they say.

you are a clown.

in all my experiences, hayes nines have been nothing but trouble. hayes nines and el caminos are junk. i would say that if one were to go the hayes way, get the hayes mags theyre the best of the bunch.

personally, id take juicys or shimanos over hayes. if im gonna spend a pile of money on hydraulic disc brakes, i want em to work

It is very easy to disparage components. Maybe the problem resides between the handlebars and back wheel?

I have the hfx hds on my faith and love them. However, I just ordered a set of el caminos today. I also sold my juicy 7s today (I think the idea of the power adjust knob is sweet, The juicys are really noisy, and i got a good price for them). I'm putting the HDs on my dirt jumper and using the el caminos. I hope they are all that they ar ecracked up to be. I was a little disapointed w/ my 7s.
