Yet another bike, needs some work

Hey

well here it is, i went around to yard sales yesterday lookin for something of interest, found a few bikes, almost all were NEXT's and Mongoose, which are prodominantly wal mart bikes. So i shruged em off, then i found this other bike, seems like a road bike or a hybrid, it was cheap at 10 bucks so i picked it up. Looks slightly aged and battered.

It's a Bianchi Broadway, has a Suntour shifter and some no name brand brakes. Has a good amount of surface rust which would be easy enough to buff off, the frame itself is good, no loose paint, has an interesting emblem on the bar where the stem and fork pipe go thru.

Anyhow i'm just wondering if anyone can identify this bike for me? is it a wal mart brand? is it old? is it worth anything? Should i actually put the money into it to restore it to working order? Needs new tires and inner tubes, saddle and post, chain, and possible needs either a rework of the brakes or new brakes all together.

any help would be appreciated, pics on request

-Ray

Bianchi is a top Italian brand... its probably worth fixing if you like it and it fits you.

nice old bike

In Canada, Bianchi is sold only through LBS's and is considered a Tier 1 manufacturer, a trade up from Giant, Trek, Specialized, etc.. They're better known for their road bikes, but have offered MTB's for a while, sort of like Raleigh getting into the category in the 80's when the 26'ers caught on and their roadie sales stalled

still, its an old bike and i'd hesitate to put too much money into it...after fixing up the things you mentioned, the drive train will probably need some work later, peddles, BB, and wheels will eventually wear out. For the same money, you could easily pick up a newer used bike in better shape.

However, i'm a yard sale bike addict, a good source for my winter bikes which i can ride until the salt eats them away...sometimes you do get a good deal, though

my $20 tribike:
