Steel frame care and feeding?
I'm finally getting a new bike to replace my ride that was stolen this Spring. I've settled on the Marin Pine Mountain FX. https://www.marinbikes.com/bicycles_2...untain_fx.html
I've read a little about rust prevention and a product called Frame Saver. The bike is a special order, so I plan to have the shop spray Frame Saver or some other rust inhibitor in the tubes before assembling. Here are my questions for those knowledgable about steel frames:
1) Any other products that work better or are a better value than Frame Saver?
2) Do you apply any rust inhibitor to the outside? Wax? (I know it sounds silly for a MTB)
3) How do you store your bike? Hanging upside-down with seat post removed to drain water/moisture?
4) How often do you take the BB out or other disassemble the frame to check for rust and re-coat with rust inhibitor?
5) Anything else I should know?
Thanks,
Curtis

i am interested in this as well. you should post this in the mechanics forum and the frame builders forum to further exposure and expertise. i don't think think anyone will get all pissy for posting in more than one location

JP Weigels framesaver is uncommonly good. I used it on a 853 frame I had a few years ago and the inside is as fresh as the day I applied the stuff. It goes on as a liquid and then dries to a sticky semi-hard shellac.
WD40 is pretty bad in the long haul.
