cutting seat post

i made the mistake of buying a specialized hardrock and getting the bigger frame thinking i would do more XC than anything but now that i like jumping it i want the seat to go a little lower. the seat could go about 2-3 inches lower but it bottoms out on the inside nuts that the waterbottle holder screws go into. couldi just cut the post a little bit or is that a bad idea thanks

sure you definitely can. many people cut theirs for weight savings. just make sure you leave around 3-4inches in seat tube and you should probably chamfer edges with a file after hack sawing it

make sure to use a pipe cutter and file the snot out of it after cutting it. even the smallest bur can create a huge problem. Ive tried skipping the file it well part and regretted it after big time.
