The new stumpjumper FSR lists for $1360. What do you think is the lowest possible price i could get in this bike ? I've decided on this one with your help in another thread. (thank you !!!) And tomorrow i'm going to a major bike shop who i know is capable of as low a price as any. So what do you think the lowest price they'll be able to swing and still make a profit that would be worth it to them? I realize there are factors such as how many they have in stock among other things, but gimmie an estimate if you can. I want to be able to bargain with them knowing what kind of discount i should be able to wring out of them.

Is it an '02 or an '03?

We generally don't discount new inventory. If it's last years bike, you may get $100 to $200 (10 to 15%) off depending on the bike and our urgency to sell it. The FSR, is a popular bike and one that probably wouldn't be discounted too much, because it WILL eventually sell. If it were a $3,000 + bike, and last year's, you'd get a better deal. As much as 20% or as much as 25% if it's a real odd ball type bike that won't sell in our market.

A $3,000 bike, ties up a lot more $$$$ that can be used to buy other inventory, so for a small shop like ours, we want to move the higher priced inventory quicker and buy 2 or 3 lower priced bikes with the money!

Forgot to mention. Many manufacturers get upset with a shop if they find out they are regularly discounting new inventory below a certain percentage. It upsets the balance with all their other shops. If they find out, they could pull your line of bikes and remove you as a dealer. If it's older inventory, they are less concerned!

Ask for free accessories, or aleast discounted. Or ask for free services on the bike, like maintanence stuff. Ususally stores are willing to do that. Or ask for minor upgraded components.

Well, do you think i can at least get supergo to beat the deal the little ma and pa shop near me is offering? They have it for $1249. Seems supergo should be able to beat them. But if not i guess i may as well go to the smaller shop since it's 2 blocks from where i live compared to supergo at 30 miles away. Supergo would have to beat them by probably a hundred bucks to make it worth my while because anything less and it's probably worth the extra $$$ to have the shop i bought it from so close to me in case of warranty service or whatever.

The best way to know is to find out the kind of people that work in the shop. If they're more about riding they'll probably be more lax and odds are you might not get a sweet deal on the bike but the accessories will come cheaper. If they're jackasses go to supergo and save the $$$

Just curious isn't that price fixing when the manufacturers do that? i don't know if it is illegal in the states but I know it is in Canada.

Ok, heres the latest..... i called the small shop i mentioned that has the $1360 list stumpjumper i want for $1249. I got them down another c note to $1149. Do you think this deal is about as good as i'm gonna get, or should i still make the 25 mile trek to supergo saturday? I can pick it up on the way home today!!! Waddayathink?

a2psyklnut knows his stuff re: pricing at shops. As was mentioned in the other thread, there is just not the margin on these bikes and a popular new model bike will not get discounted. I would imagine the small shop you are looking at provides some sort of service plan or other incentives with the bike as well. Just remember that if never hurts to buy stuff and establish a relationship with your LBS.

So then i guess the $210 off list is oretty good, eh? I'm leaving work in 10 minutes, so i'll likely be stopping to pick up the SJ FSR. Hope i'm making the right move ! (instead of going to supergo tomorrow)

Thats a helluva deal especially for a 2003. Kudos on your bargaining skills. Be happy with that deal, thats almost the same exact price as a rockhopper FSR and you get a lot more bike.

Is that even a good deal for supergo? If so, thats great considering it's a small ma and pa shop. Anyway, i bought it on the way home from work. Sure feels wierd compared to the other cheap bikes i've owned. I'm sure ill get used to it tho. Front shock feels awful spongy tho, even with the spring adjusted as stiff as it goes. Theres also a thing at the bottom of the right fork they briefly mentioned, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Nothing in the manual about it either.

This is a whole new world to me, so it's gonna take a lot of getting used to. Nice piece of workmanship tho.......the dream silver finish is nice. Now lets se.........what fire road should i start with..........hmmmm....

its a little late for that DBD, but i think the stumpy is a way better bike anyway. And you did get a sweet deal Dazco, getting $210 off of a 03 bike at 1.3K is pretty good

Have Fun with it and it might take a little time to adjust but once you're used to it you will never change to a hardtail
