    Mineral Oil color.

    Hi crew

I have a question concerning the varieties and the color of shimano mineral oils for disc brakes. The oil that i was supplied with has a red/pink color shade. The oil that my LBS bled my brakes with (using the original shimano bleeding kit) was beige rather than pink. However they both smell the same silli baby oil smell. Any ideas?

I just freaked out with the idea of having dot fluid in my brakes (XT shimano) But the lbs used the shimano bleeding kit and so i hope that they are not so dumb to use dot with a bleeding kit that will disolve with dot.

Is there anyway to discover what kind of oil the lbs put in my brakes?

yes. stick your finger in it. If it stings or starts to get to your finger there's DOT somewhere in it. If there's no bite or anything you have mineral oil. BTW Dot fluid comes in big containers that look like it has motor oil in it

Peter i just did so with my finger and its perfectly ok. Also i got some of this oil on my paint with a paintbrush and nothing happened....paint is as good as new so i guess i got mineral on right? The container of the fluid on the lbs was big ...like the ones for motor oil...but then again i guess they use large containers for bleeding since they own a pro downhill team as well...
