Cracked another helmet
Fell pretty good today, got the gravel rash to show for it. But i cracked another helmet, not as badly as the previous a month ago...but a cracked helmet is still useless. Im happy my XC helmet saved my head again....but i need something that doesnt crack as easily.
Im going to get a skate type helmet with a hard shell. My shop has the bell factions but they aren't really what im looking for, too bulky.
Wondered if any of you FR or DJ guys had some good recommendations in terms of brand/model. Im not asking about fit, im just looking for a skate type helmet not as bulky as the bells at my shop.
As always, many thanks for any suggestions.

for XC? i think you should chance it and get one more high air flow helmet. you couldn't possibly wipe out and destroy a 3rd one quickly

Hate to sound like an ass or whatever... but have you ever considered a full face helmet? They are not as bad for XC as some pose them to be, my Azonic T-55 is pretty well ventilated, its light and its not nearly as tight as other full face helmets, I use it for XC and I would not like any other helmet better and the extra protection is great.

Skate helmets can take mulitiple shots, but they're also designed to a different standard of protection.
Oh, and they're all unbelievably hot. Be advised.

even if you can't see any cracks on a helmet, if you fall on it you should get it replaced.

Im no Sam Hill so im not at high speed (which im assuming the bike specific helmets are designed to protect against). Would you advise against using a skate helmet?

Look for the Pro-tec Ace Dig. It's a sweet helmet, light weight and has proven it self to me countless times.

I'd look pro-tec if you were getting a skate style lid. What exactly is the riding style you need this helet for? I am thinking you are doing light Freeride/DH? If so a full face isn't too bad an idea, you will become faster with practice and want to upgrade. For a full face I'd look, Giro Mad Max II, Tory Lee D2 etc.
