gloves and shin guards

So I need some new gear for biking, I need some gloves and shin guards. What are some of the good ones out there? I need something easy to clean and preferably light and durable.

first, what do you ride, xc? fr? dh?

bighitboy 07-22-06 05:08 AM

661 make good shin guards and gloves, cedric gracias gloves are awesome, expensive though.

i use cheap (~$20) motocross gloves and i intend to use my soccer guards if they don't bug me too much. if they are a pain i will buy something more designed for this purpose.

in the past i know people used mechanix gloves (not sure if that is a fashion faux pas these days), which you can get for around $15 at walmart and home depot type places.

661 Race knee/shins (they have a full-wrap above-the-knee "sock" that helps kep them up); and 661 Cedric gloves (carbon-fiber-armored knuckles), as bighitboy said. Or, for less $, the 661 MTX gloves.

I know, I know . . . I'm a 'sponsor wh***' - - but, hey, that's why I went after that sponsorship: their gear is SOOOOOOOoooo good :D.

I wear Specialized gloves, fnd I like it. It's very comfortable and tecniccaly one!

What kind of gloves you wish: short or long finger. I prefer long, becouse it gige you more control the bike and protect you better!!!

blue_neon 07-24-06 02:20 AM

I find long finger gloves give me less control of the bike.

I wear short finger for XC. Try on a few...but them, if theyre crap throw them out get some others.

Get some Fox Launch Shin pads, and try on the new Mace Gloves, they don't have any strapes and fit really well.

Dannihilator 07-24-06 08:00 PM

I'll second the Fox Launch Pads. They are what I use when the going gets wet, any other situation and I will only have helmet and gloves on for protection.

JKWITS 07-24-06 09:50 PM

I use fox gloves (full fingers) and they work well and aren't too hot.

Also wear Mace knee/shin guards which are made mainly for freeride but I do a lot of pedalling and find them comfortable. I reckon they will be hot when summer hits though.

Yeah, the more padded the glove is its like you seem more "disconnected" from the handlebars to put it that way, bare hands give you the best control.

That is for me anyways, I still like good long finger gloves the best though.

i wouldnt go with soccer shin guards. used mine for a time, but the pedal kept hitting me above the plactic. most of my shin hits around just below the knee. im looking at the lizard skin pads (i think theyre lycra with hard plastic inserts...not sure tho) becuase i ride trials and theyre not as restricting as the tougher pads like ones by 661. since i dont throw my body down rediculous trails too often, i can sacrifice the protection for mobility.

Im not very happy with the Specialized BG gloves. Will be picking up some fox or 661 fairly soon.
