Allow me to introduce myself.

Hey guys(and girls) . I figured I ought to introduce myself to the MTB forums now- a little background.

I grew up always riding BMX, mostly flatland stuff- and alwats on wal-mart/target bikes-because they were cheap, and they worked. once I started working, I took my moms couple year old Giant Cypress out as my Commuter. then came the car...I stopped riding for a few years, until one of my frieds got me into fixed gear, so I picked up a Bianchi Pista, and now I ride that everywhere I Possibly can...the car just sits in the garage now. but the moral of this story: I wanted to have something a little more rugged, something easier to use in the winter, as well as trying out some (basic) trail riding stuff.

So the other day I picked up an 07 Specialized Hardrock Sport (no, not the disc one).

Ill post up some pictures later.

Ive only taken it out on one ride out off the hiking trails down the road from me, and Im hooked.

so yes, Hi.

and a closeup on the paint

This year(07) they also switched to all shimano instead of SRAM components. I like the shifters better than the 06's I test rode.

In general, I like SRAM shifters better than Shimano. But SRAM put out some real crap for their first OEM trigger shifter. The Alivio stuff is not all that better as those pods WILL tear and break fairly quickly.

For next year, SRAM is introducing a new X-9 set and bumping everything else down one level. The new SX-5 (if they have any sense they'll drop the 'S' as it's to easy to make SUX out of SX-5) will be this year's X-7 shifter. Hopefully they'll drop the prices down to SX-5 level so SRAM can win more OEM contracts.

welcome! i'm totally new here and our pasts and future sound alike i also rode a giant.. it was the alcapulco.. i rode that for years until i got a car.. then after moving into the city i got that bike back out and re-discovered the love of the ride.. I then got a lotus road bike.. love it.. but alas.. i sold both bikes and bought the new specialized hardrock.. I also liked the shifters on the 07' better then the 06 sram.. whats up with that? i thought the sram would be better.. but alas.. anyone have any insight?? sooo now i'm looking at the fixie bianchi(and the fixie specialized.. guess its search time eh??).. they both look great.. sooo anyway cheers!!
