a friend of mine has one and i've ridden it a few tiems. good bike, aimed for all-mtn duty but maybe abit more on the xc side, suspension is fairly stiff under small bumps but quite responsive on bigger hits. wheelbase and geometry kinda puts your weight around the centre of the bike so "flicking it about" imo is abit clumsy. 14kg-ish for a medium makes it sprightly on climbs. overall i'd say good for "hard" xc/"medium" all-mtn duty.
    That's a lie.

I would have to disagree witchya. It may seem like the "suspension is fairly stiff under small bumps but quite responsive on bigger hits", but maybe it's just not set up properly for you.

The Reign is a 6" travel All Mountain / Trail Bike that leans more toward the descending / aggressive side of things. A bike in that realm that is more XC' ish would be like the Fisher Cake deluxe. More of a climber than the Reign.

Read some reviews on it and go test one out. Have the shop set it up with proper sag. It's quite the little beast.

naw, shock was setup right, i'm just pampered. i guess i meant that the maestro suspension works as claimed i.e. it will soak up the hit although this is not obvious from riding over small bumps.

i guess these days all-mtn is a wide line to draw, but from my perspective the wheelbase and geometry didn't make it as easy to maneuver as i'd like, so it didnt strike me as extremely aggressive. a better rider would be able to push it further.

/edit - to the op: just try before you buy, as a first FS bike for most ppl the reign was designed to do a bit of everything.
    That's a lie.

I was also looking at this bike and it came down to this or a Kona Dawg.

I ended up getting the Dawg and am very happy with it. Both seemed to get equal revies however I prefer the look of the Dawg and I also prefered the LBS that stocked the bike. I do not have any riding experience on the Reign though so I can't give you a direct comparison.
You're out of your element Donnie

They are on two different suspensions. I also own a Dawg, which I feel is more all mountain. Clicky below to see the Cake (red) and the Dawg (blue). Cake is more XC.
