Paging the Col. bikers
hey Guys,
A couple of buddies and myself are driving out there from Chicago for some riding in Aug. I was out there 2 years ago for a business trip and stumbled upon the Kokepelli trails in Fruita Co. Rented a bike and was in love with the trails. (man you guys are lucky :D Riding the trails for a couple of days and then heading out to Utah for a couple of more days. Any suggestions as where to go if a couple of days are raining or any good trails within driving? Any night life in the area? Just trying to make my 8 to 10 days as fulfilling as possible. Maybe we can meet some members out there in Aug. :) Thanks, Bill F. |
I used to live there and I'm still kicking myself for spending more time in the mountains skiing than MTBing.
East Coast trails are nice, but nothing like out there...the mountains and foothills are just beautiful. Anyhow...nope, I can't help :) |
What kind of riding are you looking for? Slick rock? Good mountain trails? I used to live in Utah and worked as a mountainbike instructor. Deer valley has some good trails, and they have the lifts running for you. Give me some more info on where you'll be and what kind of riding you are looking for.

We will be going to slick rock Utah.
Mountain bike trails would be great. Bill F. |
Oh so you want them there mountain biker trail thingy's huh...ha ha ha. Sorry I ment were you looking for slick rock trails or if you were looking for more in the trees...kinda tech single track. But anything beats what we have here in IL.
The whole time I live in Utah I was only in slickrock once. Deffinately check out a trail called porcupine ridge or trail something with porcupine in it. There are a few places down in moab that will drive you to the top of the trail and you just ride down. One piece of advice, do that trail in the very early moring. By the time you get done it will be extremely hot! It took for ever to ride that one trail...like hours...lots of hours! Tell ya what I'm heading to Utah on friday, and I'll try and get you some phone numbers of places to call and set some stuff up. |
Thanks :)

Try this web site: www.moab.net. (Sorry not sure how to create the link!) There are a number of bike shops on the link that can help you. Plus there are trail maps on line too.
Are you going to be in western Colorado, Denver area??? That would be helpful to be able to provide you with additional info. Also if you go to www. mtbr.com there are trial links there too. |
Anybody else have any good info

My favorite is Winter Park, CO- about hmmm maybe 50 miles west of Denver and then maybe 30 miles north. Another good place is Crested Butte. Oh, wait I almost forgot about Salida. There is a trail along the continental divide that starts up on Monarch pass... That one is a classic but you better bring your lungs heheh. I can provide more info if you want to visit any of these areas. But to me it would be: #1- Winter Park, #2- Salida and the Collegiate Peaks area, #3 Crested Butte.

Thanks guys keep them coming :D
