Help With Selling Price

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, but getting to the point. I am looking to see how much my '99 Trek 6500 is worth for when I sell it. I bought this bike at the beginning of summer for $350. I want to sell it after this season for an upgrade for next year.
I really am looking into selling this so please give a serious idea of how much the bike would sell for say through eBay/classifieds/friend.

The bike has the following:

Shimano Deore XT Rear Derailer
Shimano Deore Front Derailer
Bontrager Race Tubeless Wheelset
Specialized Roll-X 26x2.00 Tires
Manitou SX-R Fork
Icon Onyx Series Crank
Shimano PD-520 SPD Pedal

Not sure about everything else...let me know what else should be listed...

Pictures of my bike are found here: "BIKE PICS"

That looks like it has been well keeped. But becuase of the year, I would think that it would go for around $150.

I would agree with WannaGetGood but I sold my old Gary Fisher that I had for over a year at stock price and the guy bought it. I would put it up for sale at $300 and go from there....you never know.

I was hoping for a higher price--the wheelset alone is about 350 bucks...granted you can buy another wheelset used for cheaper, but still. i didn't mention the bike has all new shifting cables and shifts flawlessly, basically the brakes/shifting was all re-done for a awesome feel.

the pedals are 50 bucks. also the Manitou SX-R Fork is worth upwards 300+ i was informed.

i was hoping for more of a 600+ range for selling. am i wrong?

You never know, you might find someone willing to pay that much. I would feel guilty for selling it for that much though. I would shoot for the $250 - $300 range. If I were selling it I would just put it on ebay for the minimum you are willing to take and hope for the best. The truth is, it's an eight year old bike.

As for the shifting flawlessly, that should be expected with every bike.

Also, the sx-r fork is selling new for about $119.

As for the pedals that won't matter. Most people could care less what pedals a bike comes with since they will use their own.

I think anyone who cares about the fork and wheel upgrades would be looking to spend their money on a more recent model year bike. My guess is that somebody interested in buying a '99 Trek isn't going care how much nicer the fork and wheelset are, compared to the original stock components.

I agree with the $150 asking price, but maybe you'll get more on eBay.

For what it's worth, I just got rid of a '98 Trek 6500zx, in very good condition, freshly overhauled. Knowing I'd only get a hundred or so for it, I instead gave it to a friend for free.

You're not going to get $600, but its worth more than $150. Its certainly nicer than any new bike in the $300-$400 range, so this would be great for a newbie considering a new bike.

Someone on this forum just spent $100 on a much lesser trek that was completely trashed.
