Still kicking.
It's more than likely a 175.

The Portland is...okay, but I consider it a dumb compromise between the XO-1 and the 520. As far as "turning to the Light side," I started on MTBs, switched to roadies, and now ride a mongrel-ass MTB with 100 psi slicks, drop handlebars, front and rear rack, and no suspension. So I've turned back to the Dark side? Anyway, as long as it's got two wheels and runs on gasoline, it's all good, (unless it's from Walmart. )

Okay children, time for the old guy to chime in. I started on road bikes. There wasn't nothin' else when I started. Production mountain bikes were at least 6 years away. I started using it to get back and forth to school (Downtown Denver from Golden ~12 miles). I got creamed by a pedestrian on one, I got up and rode some more. I got creamed by a car a month later and, after I got out of the hospital and 6 weeks of PT, I got back on and rode. I dropped one in a hole, got a new one and still ride it (A 1982 Miyata).
Then I got a mountain bike in 1983. I rode the wheels off of it and I rode the wheels off the road bike. I've ridden both kinds ever since. There is nothing wrong with it. I've ridden them both in summer heat and in winter cold. I've ridden 25, 50, 65 and 100 mile rides on both - on the plains, in the hills and in the mountains. Sometimes on pavement sometimes on dirt. I've toured on both. I race mountain bikes once - it's not for me!
There's no one bike that is best. Roadies go fast. Touring bike go far. Mountain bikes go fun. If it has 2 wheels, serviceable brakes, and all the necessary parts to move, ride the damned things! They are all lovely.
Here's my current stable. The FSR is for fun. The Stumpy is for fun and commuting. The Cannondale is for adventures. And the Salsa is because I'm old and have the money! And it's purty!
