cross country upgrade

i'm looking to upgrade to somthing tougher than my Giant Yukon

afraid thats out of my price range. i ride rough cross country. i need somthing for under $1000 US. and hardtail.

looks ok. whats the the norco Charger like? I want to get somthing with a bit more styled to fast accents.
like an all mountain bike.
