I had no idea Wendy's sold wheelsets, especially that nice of a wheelset! Then again, I didn't know Dave had come back from the dead either. Oh well, shows how much I know.

Seriously though, beautiful wheelset. Enjoy them.
I may be fat but I'm slow enough to make up for it.

$715 USD + a small charge for the black (something like $10) and another $6 for rim tape.

I have two sets of Dave's road wheels and one for CX. He's a great builder and really stands behind his work.

Wow, those are some nice wheels. Are they lighter than Spinergy Xyclones? Anyway, have fun with those.

Don't have a current picture. It's a Kona Blast hardtail. It's been slowly transforming. The wheelset was my treat for this year. Last year's treat was a new fork and headset. Next year's treat is a new bike frame to take the new nice bits.

I think I buried a couple of pics in a few threads. I'll go look for some.

    ...

Found some. I'm sure there are more but I've posted in a lot of threads and I didn't feel like going through 13 pages worth of threads that I posted in.

    Matching pink headset.

So its about 50g more than the Spinergy Xyclones, but that with tape, they're pretty much the same weight.

Weight wasn't my number one concern. I could have spec'ed a different rim/hub combo for the same price that would have been lighter. I wanted a wheelset that was relatively light but still pretty tough to take my clumsy handling.

That's the beauty of getting a custom wheelset. I told the wheelbuilder (in this case Dave Thomas of SpeedDreams.com and not of Wendy's lol) what I rode. My intention to go from a hardtail to a FS bike over the next year. The type of riding I do, the fact that I occasionally race, etc. etc. This was his recommendation.

I opted for the Chris King pink hubs to match the headset I bought last year (pink for Breast Cancer Awareness, in case anyone didn't know) et voila.

I really recommend Dave and he will build you anything you want. Take the time to read his feedback over at MTBR.com. I know LowCel also has a custom wheelbuilder that he uses so if you're in the market for a nice set of wheels you should definitely check out these wheelbuilders.

Over the winter I'll be building up a Cyclocross bike and will definitely get them from Dave. SBORNIA, what wheelset did you get built for your CX ride?

So, here's a pic of the new wheelset on my bike after my first lap at the 24-hour Albion Hills race this past weekend (3rd in class!).

Got plenty of compliments on the wheels. They were fantastic. Much livelier and super strong.

Good showing at the Albion Hills. I was there Thursday prior as they were setting up the tents. I also ended up riding about half the comp trail. I can't wait to go back there a few more times.

what are the specs on your bike? i think i see a fox fork and specialized tires... and a bashguard too... you didn't need your third chainring for an endurance event?

Frame is a 2005 Kona Blast. I've upgraded the following:
    - Avid BB7 brakes
    - Fox F100X fork & CK headset
    - wheelset described above with XTR cassette (my buddy lent me hist 1-ride-old cassette as mine was being shipped to me)
    - Specialized Fast Trak Pro tires for racing and Schwalbe Knobby Nic tires for trail-riding.
    - bashguard is a Mountain Equipment Coop 3-ring bashguard. The big ring doesn't get removed with this bashguard. Got it to protect my big ring and to protect my legs. Someone in my club had a big spill

The rest of it is stock. Next year I get a full squishy frame and will move the fork, wheelset, headset and possibly the brakes over. The Kona will get back the OEM bits and will either be sold or stay as a city bike.

So how are they so far? I know I have friends who have had issues w/ their Kings right out of the box, not broken in yet.

Love them, but hard not to when I upgraded from the Deore wheelset that came with my Kona. i think I saved something like 3 pounds by going with this new wheelset/cassette.

The break-in was brief and the only thing I noticed was that the angry-bee sound got louder as it went through break-in. I now have full angry-bee sound. The manual does speak of some adjustment right after wheel building and I think that my wheelbuilder must have taken care of that as I really didn't find any issues right out of the box.
