2 V brake questions

1a) does it really matter what order the pads are in?
2) When a pad is for XT/XTR/LX does that mean it will only work on those or is it just saying they're standard threaded pads?

1. I would go with regular Shimano or Koolstop pads for half the price.
1a. The pad order could make a difference. I tend to scrub speed a little, so I would put the hardest pad on the leading edge so it didn't wear down as fast, then softer compound further back for maximum grab. I'm just guessing though...
2. It means they will work on those brakes. I imagine they would also work on any of the Avid/Tektro/Dia-Compe/etc. V-brakes.

Actually, some Shimano pads are the rubber bit only that slides into a mount. They come without the mounting bit. Its actually kind of cool when you have shimanos because you don't have to adjust anything, however they will not work on other brakes.
If they ahve the post they should wok anywhere.
