I haven't ridden for about 3 or 4 years. I excavated my old bike from my basement when I decided that I was going to try to commute via bike sometimes to school from my new apartment. It turned out that most of the drivetrain on the bike was rusty, and it was kinda old and crappy and had 24" tires, so I decided that I was going to get a new bike. I really liked Specialized bikes that I had seen in the past so I looked into them. Originally I was going to get 2005 Hardrock Comp Disc, but my LBS said the 2006's were going to be out soon with a new frame design and better components, so I decided to wait. When the specs came out on the Specialized website, I decided I was going to get the Pro Disc mostly because I didn't want to be tempted to upgrade components in the future because that can be a money hole, and I wanted the BB5 brakes because I have read so many reviews about how great they were. The 2006 models have no Shimano and mostly SRAM components too, so that's kinda cool although I'm sure I wouldn't notice the difference. The specs for it looked good to me, but I'm not one who should judge.

I had to decide between White/Black or Silver/Black, which was extra tough because I hadn't seen either one in person. I chose Silver/Black because it seemed like it had a matte finish unlike the White/Black, and I really love matte finishes. It was a tough choice.

I put a $150 down payment on it, and they said they would get it by Tuesday most likely. I'm so psyched. I'll be sure to take some nice high res pictures once I get it and post them here.

What do you guys think?

Cheers,
Mike

Great choice in bikes! Although, I would have gone with the white/black. That's just my preference though. The Pro Disc is very well speced out for the money. +1 I think you made a great decision. Post those pics when you get it. BTW I have ridden the new Hardrocks and they are great bikes! You will not be disappointed.

Yeah, I think I might regret my colour decision a bit, but it's just paint and I'm sure they both look stunning. I did see the grey Sport at the shop (which I am assuming is close to silver) and I thought it looked pretty snazzy. I really liked the Army color on the Comp Disc, but I think I made a good choice by spending $90 for the better brakes and components.

I could have also gotten a black/white 05 Pro Disc for $100 off, but I opted out of that.

Thanks guys. I can't wait to get it and take it on some trails. Knowing my luck, I'll probably hit a tree or something. Oh well, it happens. The frame seems pretty beefy so I'm sure it can handle it.... unlike my body. I'll get some photos with my D70 before it gets all dirty though. Yay! Only 4 more days

It is balck/white writing. Kinda stealthy looking and rides sweeeeet.

I am sure you will be pleased.

know it's late in the game ....but did SkaMike ever get the bike?
and where are the pic's?
and do ya like it?

also , question for anyone! i noticed that the Hardrock pro disc only has 2-chainrings.
\
what do you loose or gain by having only 2? when would you need the third one?

Thanks

[you did promise pic's]

yea I notice that it has 2chainrings + a bashguard.
downside... you lose the big chainring
upside... BASHGUARD!!!

i use my big ring when i ride flat or going long smooth roads. i think most people would normally ride with only their 2nd ring.. right? 2nd ring to me is the most versatile.

anyways... nice bike!
