Frame size

Im looking at mountain bike frames and I have found a few nice ones, but most are a little to small for me ( Im 6'4'' long legs). What I was wondering is if there are any draw backs to just installing an extra long seat tube and raising the handle bars a little?. This bike will be used for trail riding but also alot of pavement too.

Thanks

You would need a 20 or a 21 inch frame.
