Wish me well

Ok - it's not technical but it is a Giant Yukon MTB [for this mostly road commuter]. I'm riding the 184 mile C&O canal for the Altzheimers Association of D.C. this weekend.

During the trial runs I had hot spots (numb/pain) on the hands , feet, and a$$. An e-saddle and suspension seatpost seems to handle boys and related areas - they hang free. I already put a Suntour suspension fork on. For the hands I have ironman gloves (some help), a Easton riser bar (just arrived). On order, racing the clock are ergon MP1 grips (on backorder), ergon race grips (somewhere), and a Ritchey pro 120mm adjustable stem ($20 Nashbar - woot). I have some Diadora Patrol MTB shoes as possible replacements for Shimano MTB shoes - SPD.

  • PeformanceBike.com, Nashbar.com and jensonusa.com. I go for the 99 cent shipping, 10% team kickback and 10% - 20% discount codes + sales.
  • Fork was ebay.com.
  • Bi-saddle was bycycleinc.com - not cheap but worth it. So far it's as good as the Specialized was on a 50 mile ride painwise & no numbness. I don't have it dialed in perfectly.
  • Bike was Craigslist for $100 - seller had a waiting list a mile long.

Oh - and SKS x-3 fenders. 8 miles of light rain on C&O canal trail turned MTB shorts into very good sandpaper!

Thanks for the well wishes.
The ride is over - 16 hours of pedaling. Beautiful scenery and great group of riders. I found that after 50 miles no seat or set of grips is comfortable. I stood for several miles transfering pain to feet and hands. Here are a couple pics:
