Anyone know how to modify a pic file?
O.k., I know a lot about bikes, but don't know a thing when it comes to computer file manipulation. I know enough to be dangerous!
What I'm trying to do is merge two images in order to create a new avatar. I do not have any editing software other than MS Paint. Does anyone know of any inexpensive programs or any free trial ones I can download?
I've got two .jpg files I want to merge, but when I do that in paint, it only saves as a .bmp file which is too big. I cannot resave it as a .jpg file.
Any help would be great!
Thanks

Yep go to www.acdsee.com and download the acdsee program trial version. it allows you to resize pictures and save them at the format that you desire.

no matter if it's a bmp or a jpg it still can be to big.... all you have to do if you want a jpg from paint brush is to change the drop down box when you save it to All Files (that way you'll see all the files) and then in the box above it just change .bmp to .jpg and boom... it's a .jpg file.
As for software PM me and I might be able to help you out.

The drop down menu doesn't allow saving back to a jpg file! I'll try the trial download and see how that goes!

I know the drop down menu doesn't allow that.... notice I said in the above box...the one right above the drop down box, you need to change it from .bmp to .jpg....
Alls the drop down box does is allows you to see the other formats of files in that folder...so that way you could see the jpg file after you save it

The GIMP is good and free...it can do pretty much anything Photoshop can do. (Photoshop is the industry standard for graphics work)
The only problem with it is the interface. It's pretty clunky.

Nope, not in the industry. I post some fan art on a Harry Potter discusson board, and I felt so bad for the kids who had nothing but Paint, and who nevertheless TRIED to make actual artwork with it, that I searched the web to find good, free art programs for those who don't have the means to go out and buy (or pirate) a good commercial paint program.
Project Dogwaffle looks pretty cool to me, but I have a Mac, not to mention owning Painter 6 and Photoshop 5.5.....

Those are actually the two already merged, but saved as a .bmp file.
I just wanted to reduce it to make it my new avatar and Ritalin did already. I'm off to "My control panel" to see how it looks! New avatar soon!

O.k.,
The image is still too large. Can only be 5120 pixels.
Let's see what I can do!
Hey jtown, check your PM, I'll PM you both original pics (in .jpg) format!
