Descending is were it really shines though. Barging through rock gardens there is less deflection, it's really "point and shoot."

I"ve ran dampers on my ATV's for years and they are worth their wieght in gold. Anything off road with 2 or 4 wheels can benefit from one.

What defines the ideal terrain or bike type that benefits from a damper?
Does the damper hamper a bike or the rider under other conditions?

It helps at all speeds when barging through rock gardens, across roots, etc. The front end deflects less and it's point and shoot.
