Cannondale prophet 1000 or prophet 3

I'm pretty new to mountain biking but not cycling. I've been into road cycling for a couple of years and I work at a local bike shop. Here's the million dollar question. We have a 2005 prophet 1000 at the shop that has been sitting there since late '05 or early '06. As I have become interested in MTBing, I called the cannondale rep. and he will give me the cannondale employee pricing on the bike even though its a couple of years old. The other option is to order a new prophet 3 from the factory. There is very little difference between the two. The prophet 3 has better wheels, tires and crank. The prophet 1000 has a better color(matte mocha brown) and saddle. I dont really care for the color of the prophet 3(blue or raw, ick!). After the employee pricing, they are almost the same. So what do you guys and gals think?

how can you have a 2005 model bike that's been in the store since 1995?

I don't know about the 3 but I have an '06 1000 and I couldn't be happier. If it's a good deal and you like the color take it for a test ride and if it feels good do it.

go for the '05.. its a great bike, it will help the shop get rid of old stock, and ordering one will take up to a month to get. I assume its the right size.

I have and 05 1000. The more I ride the more me likes. My best way to describe the bike is an efficient, and plush bulldozer that's well under 30lbs.
