Linear-pulls on a cantilever frame...CantiLinear!
I just built up a '97 Trek 970 steel frame. All good, except the cantilever noodle around the seat tube rather than a cable housing stop. So, I did some thinking, and came up with this design. It seems to work quite well, even with the v-brake levers. What do you think? Anyone else come up with another (hopefully better) idea for using linear pulls on a cantilever-only frame?

you could use a full run of cable housing from lever to brakes.

How does it brake? I don't see any problem why you can't set up the linear brake normally, with the noodle properly installed, unless of course you have brake/lever issues. Very innovative though.

I did run full housing for a while, and had it zip-tied to the frame to keep it in place, but wanted a more elegant solution. As for the braking, I can lock up on dry pavement (not that that's a good idea) without too much strain. Also, I couldn't route the cable normally for linear-pulls, because there isn't enough room for the housing to make the proper bend.
