Ok, last thread, I swear!

2006 Giant Yukon, 300 bucks, used but BARELY, maybe ridden twice at the most. Could upgrade the front derailer and shifters to deore if I had to.

2007 Haro V4, 550 bucks, new...lifetime brake/gear adjustments from the dealer (small pring bike lifetime expectancy 5 to 6 years if ridden daily) so in other words...5 to 6 years, which is still better than most.

I'm leaning towards the Haro, but cant justify the extra 250 bucks, so someone tell me if it is really worth the extra 250.

If you like the way it rides and the way it fits then yes it is well worth the extra $250. Plus you get more warranty benefits buying from an LBS.

The Yukon sounds good if its one from 05 or 06 and your budget is limited. If you ride lots, you'll have added expenses above and beyond just the bike.

of course i don't know squat, but i say buy the new bike if you're a noob. then you can take it to someone who knows what they are doing if something goes wrong. plus, you can never underestimate the importance of a good warranty. if you're not a noob, i don't really know if the giant is better or not. flak probably knows what he is talking about.

Actually, if they have to ask, they probably won't notice the difference between the two bikes.

Sigh...ouch, a whole, budget busting 250 dollars more...

both of those bikes are a mix of almost good and ****ty parts. Just pick which part you want to be ****ty. My advice is the Haro because it has a better (not good, but better) fork and crappier brakes than the Yukon. Brakes are cheaper than a fork so you can replace them sooner.

How much do you spend on your 03 SVT Cobra????

actually the '07 V4 is fairly loaded for the price range. RockShox Dart II fork, Hayes M4 brakes, Full deore gearline. No need for that attitude brother, just asking a question...you should take it as a compliment that I think you guys are knowledgable enough to help me make my decision.

WTF does it matter how much my car costs...maybe part of the reason I'm trying to stay under a certain price on a bike is because I spend too much on my car

598 rear wheel horsepower is not something you see your everyday corvette pumping out...but what do I know...I only drive a ford.

So because you guys know so much more about bikes than I do that gives you the right to get an attitude with someone for asking a simple question? Real mature guys...I guess I'll just troll back over to the lowly Ford forums where us know nothing ford driving inbreds can enjoy each others company.

Thanks to those of you that had something worth wile to say about the decision, I appreciate it.

When I was younger, I had a stout small block in my 68 Camaro. Now I have 91hp at the crankshaft of my Toyota, and I can easily exceed the speed limit.

I also don't sweat a couple of hundred bucks in bike gear.

OK...I'm in college, so because you can afford to blow an extra couple hundred bucks on a bike gives you the right to act the way you did.

You are a college student, and you freely admitted that you spent too much on your car. Do you need a bowl of salsa for that giant chip on your shoulder?

Settle down cobra, you're being too sensitive. Fubar can be a bit of a dick, but he's a harmless dick....and expat poked a little fun at Ford that you took seriously. In both cases, no big deal. I don't know how so many seemingly high strung people make it though the day sometimes.

The Haro seems to get the pick for the better bike, but $250 worth of better? I don't know about that. Considering your price point and your experience level, i think the yukon is a good fit for you. Have you factored in helmet, gloves, tubes, pump, etc? Often times you'll need to spend a little more over the bike alone to get what you need to get out and ride on a regular basis. Be realistic with your budget, and if it can afford the haro, great. Although it sounds like $300 is your comfort price, and i think the yukon will make you a happy rider.

Who's got a chip on their shoulder? I came here as a friendly guy to get some info on what bike to buy. I didn't ask to get into any personal business on how much I spent on my car...I didn't spend too much on my car, I actually got a great deal on it...how the hell else would a college student afford an 03 cobra, I spend to much making it faster...but its what I like to do, just like I want to start mountain biking...and I have come acrossed a little extra cash to throw down on a bike.

Now what about that makes me someone with a chip on my shoulder? I didn't have a problem with you until the you acted like because I didn't know what was more worth my money that I'm incompetent.

I love it when noobs ask for advice and when they become the butt of a little heckling they can't handle it.

Get the Haro. Better fork and the money you'll save on services for the life of the bike will cover the extra cost.

My .02 dollars

Wow! That IS a lot of horse power!! I'm into cars too but no way my car has that many horses!! I just have a Trans Am. What tranny is on that? Kinda curious because I've only seen SVT's at a car show but never got to talk to the guy. (this is not sarcastic!) I'm not trying to be a jerk okay?

(If you think I am, my car is posted on this thread on page 30 and 31) https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...214821&page=30
