Try asking in the mtb forum. And try to narrow the question down. A broad question like that will get a flood of responses.

The U.S. is full of great cross country trails. just in my area there's hundreds of trails, many different kinds and difficulty levels. i've never researched trails nationwide but i'd guess Moab Utah has some of the best, also Whistler BC which is not U.S. but is close. try www.mtbr.com and www.dirtworld.com and you can narrow it down to states and cities. if your search is truly nation wide perhaps get a magazine like Dirt Rag that reviews trails from all over the U.S.

THE best trail: the one your are on
THE best bike: the one you are riding
THE best equipment : what you can afford, have access to and enjoy.
the questions you ask are relative.
