Had a nasty crash tonight...

Me and a friend were out doing some urban assault... stair drops, wall drops, some fairly large jumps, etc. There was a wall about 4 feet high, with grass at the top and bottom. It was about midnight, I was feeling pretty confident. It really wasn't a big drop at all. But the grass was soft so I lost speed coming towards the jump and realized that I didn't have enough speed, so I grabbed the brakes to stop. But anyone who's ever ridden on wet grass knows that traction is practically non-existant.. and I was running semi slicks. So the rear tire slides sideways, and the front rolls out from under me and I slide/endo over the edge of this wall and land on the ground... on my face. I laughed at first, but then I tried to move and realized how bashed up I was. I was seeing stars and had a headache at first, as well as some grass and dirt in my mouth... ugh. I have a fairly deep gash in my right knee, and the left knee feels like it has some muscle/deep tissue bruising. It's hard to extend the left one all the way without pain. It was a pretty wicked crash, but I managed to take alot of the force with my shoulder, so I think I'm alright. It was really a worst case scenario. I have a feeling im going to be extremely stiff and sore when I wake up tomorrow. I need to be more careful with myself

And each mark is a story you can tell your kids some day >8)

"When I was your age..." or "This one time at bandcamp..."

Maybe not the latter...

Concusion. Make sure you have someone check on you at some point in your sleep. I had a friend end up in the hospital with a similar "seeing stars" injury.

Best of luck and next time nail it

I know it sounds a bit like a stuck record on the forums (or these days maybe I should say a skipping CD) but you should probably get a doctor to check you over if it's as nasty as you say.

I hope there is nothing serious but don't take chances with your health.

It was a total worst case scenario... everything that shouldn't have happened did. The headache went away but my knees still hurt a little bit. The cuts have scabbed over, but it still stings to wear pants. Plus all my leg hair has gotten into the cuts making things more complicated. I'm feeling alright today... just VERY sore all over. My neck is extremely stiff, my shoulders hurt (took the majority of the hit on my shoulders) and my arms are sore from breaking the fall. But I think I'm gonna be okay. No concussion or anything... I'm lucky to be alright after what happened.. that was REAL nasty. Thanks for all the concern guys

The big question that has yet to be asked, How is the bike?

Plus all my leg hair has gotten into the cuts making things more complicated.
That is way some riders will tell you to shave them legs. I don't but it is a good point. So, where are you riding tonight?

Good to hear you are alright. Hopefully you canget back on by this weekend. Oh yeah, and next time be sure to get it on film.

Glad to hear you're all right!

dirtbikedude, you took the words right out of my mouth! We'll have to save that quote for the next time someone starts a thread about shaving legs!

It was dark and rainy tonight..... so no riding for me. I really wanted to so I could relieve some stress.. but I opted for a beer and some TV instead

Shave my legs?! NEVER! I think that'd look majorly fruity

of course, crashing comes with what we do--
i feel the most alive right after a bad crash... it may hurt like hell, but you're sense of pain is thriving at that moment. i just hope there wasn't any serious injury, so you can get back on and try it again.

Strangely enough you're right about feeling more alive. I was more awake and aware afterwards. It was a pretty wicked crash.... but not nearly enough to keep me from riding

The funny part is I always laugh it off directly after the crash since the adrenaline is flowing. Then I try to get up and realize that I'm in pain

Jim- It's been one day short of 3 WEEKS since I bailed over the handlebars at about 25 mph. I am still sore. Mostly in my shoulder and under the collarbone areas. Good news is I got to buy another new helmet. I am a believer in helmets, I've put three out of commision...

I saw stars, much more than I "usually" do when playing football or whatever. They lasted for a good minute or two before I started getting dizzy. The dizzyness lasted about 20 seconds and then I was "fine." I seemed to bruise the area where my ribs connect to my spine. Putting on a shirt was excruciating for the first week and a half.

The worst thing was having to miss my football game. My team lost.

Yeah, my left shoulder keeps spasming and its VERY sore to more. It's starting to loosen up a little, but I'm not giving it any rest which explains the slow recovery. We went riding at Razorback today and I showed it no mercy. I think I'm going to be okay.. my ribs and neck are still a bit sore, but I think overall I'm starting to feel better
