Complete Novice Needing Advise
Hey, I've always been into my bikes, however, I never really got into a specific area. I currently own four bikes, a Onza T-Pro for Trials, Raleigh Nitro for general use (although it is getting old and battered now), a Saracen X-Ray to get backwards and forwards on those crappy days or when i cba to go the fragile route on my Dawes Galaxy touring bike.
One of the main aspects ive been interested in is mountain biking. Untill now, I've never had the time, money or ability to attempt getting involed in the sport. Through my studies I've decided that I'm most interested in FreeStyle, Downhill and Jumping. Could someone tell me the difference between these types of riding, ive been confused by all the terminology like NorthShore etc. What kind of bikes do each use?
Speaking of types of bike, I am currently thinking about building my own bike. I know this may be seen to be naive knowing little about jump geometry etc but it something i feel like doing for a laugh . The plan was to make a mess about / dirt jump bike from a small (probably bmx) frame and a semi-decent set of front suspension with the aim of keeping it as light and as manuverable as possible. I was worried that most suspension forks would not fit in the headtube of the bmx frames as they would be too big for example. Also what would i do about breaks? What type of breaks to i need? What size wheels etc. BIKE BUILDING ADVISE NEEDED I'm wanting to keep costs down, i dont expect perfection, mainly down to the fact that ill be putting it together at the end of the day so it'll be a miracle if anything goes together .
Any infomation, tips or advise on MTB will be appreciated.
Thanks
Ps. Can someone tell me what 4X is?
