Best Tires
 

I just want to put this question to the members of the forum. I am fairly new to riding and found that I use my Trek 4900 for all my riding. I am going to have to replace the rear tire soon and I don't know what to go with. Most of my riding is done on asphalt, stone trails and on occassions in the woods. Any help that you can give would be great. OLD TREK:rolleyes: :D

Maxxis High Roller? Well perhaps the ranchero or crossmark.

everywhere is different. The best tires here in Socal won't do squat for areas w/ roots and softer soil.

Best bet is to go to the LBS and ask what everyone is running on their local trails.

Not High Rollers! I have them and they roll really slow. It takes a lot of effort to push them. I just got some IRC serac XCs. They're supposed to be a great all-around tire. If you're going a lot of pavement riding, get something that rolls fast. The knobs on high rollers are big and soft rubber. you will wear them out very quickly!

I ride on roots rocks and soft soil, panaracers XC are the best tires I have ever used, they clean mud well grip roots great and corner awsome on the trail. They work on road but are not very smoth I dont do a lot of intense on road riding so I cant comment too much on them.

the IRC serac XCs look ok for road, i ride (cuz i got em cheaper than cheap) Bontrager Connection Trail (stock on many treks) they have the continous tread down the middle so when pumped up at high pressures they do very well on pavement, and they have knobbies on the side so i let them down to 40psi and they do well off road too. i ride 80% road and 20% off road. they are ok in mud when its relatively flat, muddy hills are a no-no. my bike came with jones acx-b's which were a lot better on mud but kinda sucked on pavement. they do have better stopping power though, they don't skid as much, especially offroad.

well originally im thinking of replacing my next tyres with Maxxis Crossmark but after checking Geax TnT tyres my opinion changed. TnT same concept as UST but stronger, if im not mistaken

Well I have 2.35 folding stick-e nevegals, a bit pricey but they are pretty good, they hook up damn well, corner very well and even on cement the nevegals are good, hell even some street bikes come with Nevegals.

As far as rolling resistance, I can't notice a difference in comparison to the old specialized adrenaline tires, the nevegals are great, yesterday I was clearing a set of staircases and I was going too fast, I landed well but I landed too hard yet the nevegal hold up and I didn't get a flat (I could feel the tire compress hard).

Yeah nevegals are great if you are willing to pay 30$ a piece but I don't know, around here Nevegals work great but maybe your needs and terrain are different and another tire might work better for the price.

I love my rear high roller (2.5) and my front mobster (2.7). But i do more aggressive riding than you by the looks of it. When I XC'ed years ago I seemed to only run Panaracers.
