2007 Avid G2 Clean Sweep rotors

Does anyone know the difference between the 2007 G2 clean sweep rotor and the old clean sweep rotor, or did Avid not want anyone to know that they made a mistake by producing the warbling p.o.s. polygon rotor so they use the clean sweep now and just call it the 2007 G2 clean sweep?

Are you talking about the roundagon's tendancy to talk to you? Yeah my wifes new bike has the G-2 rotors and they are much quieter (until they get wet) I might try a set of them on mine when the price comes down. Or just go with a set of Hayes. Funny, all the Shimano hydros Ive used in the past never made a sound wet or dry, I don't care for their deraileurs but they make a good hydro brake!

Yeah, what is it with those brakes? They sound like a bull elk in rut when they're wet and they tend to transmit an annoying vibrating sensation up the fork under hard braking with weight forward. I had to put a clean sweep on the rear when I bent my rotor and I think I will probably do the front now.

I've heard that the G2's are much quiter than the older ones.

I'm not talking about the Roundagon rotors sucking. I'm talking about the Polygon rotors being crap. Now they have come out with the G2 Clean Sweep rotor. The only difference that I can see in the pictures is that it has twice as many "V-Cuts" on the edge.

will those rotors work with BB7s or are they for hydraulic brakes only?

Here's a review I wrote last year on MTBR:

I have gone round and round with Avid / SRAM about these rotors. These rotors were designed poorly. All the tiny people out there probably don't even know what I'm talking about because you don't need to squeeze your levers very hard to stop, but I'm 6'2" and 200 pounds and when I put some pressure on these baby's...they Warble like a Turkey and Shudder and Stutter somethin' crazy.

Here's why: I spoke w/ Avid / SRAM and I measured and took pictures of my rotors. THE BRAKE PAD COMES IN CONTACT WITH THE ROTOR SPOKE ON THE INSIDE OF THE BRAKING SURFACE. The pad actually hangs 1/8" below the intended braking surface.

All they really had to do was cut the rotor spokes a little shorter and make a little more contact area for the brake pad and they would be fine. I'm still toying with the idea of making some 1/8" spacers to move the caliper further away from the hub. This may cure the problem completely, I don't know.

If you look have ridden with your brakes for at least 100 miles or so, take a good look at your Polygon rotors. Do the shiny 'wear-marks' go down below the braking surface and onto the rotor-spoke? Is there a tiny non-shiny un-worn area at the outer-most part of the rotor where the pad doesn't contact?

For the time being, Avid sent me some clean sweep rotors that came standard on their pre '06 mechanical disc brakes. I am not happy about it, I hope they don't think it's going to shut me up. I want the Polygon rotors, I just want the correct diameter of braking surface. If this means running a spacer, I may just do that.

Nevertheless, the Juicy's with Clean Sweep rotors do work nicely. Still alot of power, but not quite as much as the Polygon's.

Here's a comment by someone in Singltrack World:

Thats the rotor - be carefull though, it looks similar too the cleansweep rotor, you want the G2 which all 07 juicys come with so its all good.

These rotors DO stop ALL noises - trust me they work. The polygon style was bad for noise and turkey sound, the new G2 stops that for good!

Want you intending using them for btw? There not as powerfull as normail juicys.

Oh, Ok We can pull one of my wifes G-2's off and compare it with your Polygon's if you want. Like you said at 100 pounds she will probably never notice any design flaws. But if you would like to do a hands on comparison with one that's been ridden, we can sure do that.
P.S. Her G-2's still make noise when wet. But all noise seems to go away when dry. This is not the case with my roundagon rotors, once they get contaminated with anything, (mud, water, extract from leaves that get trapped in the rotor ) they will sound off until cleaned with denatured alchohol.
Annoying is an understatement!

I'm not very familiar with the Roundagon rotors. I have seen them, but I haven't used them. My rear Clean Sweep rotor is just a teeny bit squeeky. I've never been able to rid myself of the noise. It's sooooo much better than the Howling Turkey warbler of the Polygon rotor. Sometimes I don't even hear the rear rotor...that's how minimal it is.

I kinda wish I hadn't sold my Polygon rotors. I could have added spacers and moved the caliper out a bit. It would probably have solved the noise issue.

chelboed: I have '05 Avid Juicy 5s with the polygon rotors and they really, really loud. While I'd usually be OK with this the fact that it's a flaw and not natural doesn't make me too happy, do you recon if I contacted SRAM with the problem then they'd be able to hook me up with some G2 Cleansweeps?
