Ski/Snow Bike is Done!!!PICS!

Well I finaly got some used cheapo skis from a used sporting goods store. The skis are now on and the bike is pretty damn solid. All I need now is some snow!

Looking good. The only thing I wonder is if a tricycle type configuration may be more stable especially for turns and stuff. No knowledge on this, just thinking out loud.

Wow, that is impressive, tell us how it rides once you get the chance. Somehow this reminds me of the Beatles in their film Help.

Clever **** using skateboard trucks (yeah?) to connect the skis to the frame.
It seems from the geometry of things that you might consider putting some sort of pegs in the back.
All in all, very nice though, keep us updated on how it handles compared to a bike.

Snowboards and skis are their own brakes. You just turn sideways.

Growing up I used some sleds that were similar to what was made above that had some drag brakes. They were useless. The best way to stop on snow and ice is to turn sideways and use the metal edge to stop.

DyanTremblay: For pegs I am acually using what I use to press my headset with. Its just a 1/2in threaded rod with washers and nuts on the ends.

WompWomp: Correct, I am using skate trucks to mount the skis, but I am using a smaller truck of a little kids skateboard for the front because the spacing is only 100mm.

mtnbiker66: This is going to be my burly cliff hucking snow bike.

For brakes I am just going to carve, but I was thinking about rigging up a brake for it if I have some extra time.

I acually can't wait for snow this season, I'm thinking about setting up one of my kickers up at the bottom of a hill to do some SJing (snow jumping). Should be fun!!

It seems like you could rig up some sort of rudder system to work with brake levers that might be fun to play around with, too.

I think I'd find some cheap ski boards (ski blades, mini-skis, whatever you want to call them) and whear them when riding so you can put your feet down. You could wrap your pegs to keep from chewing your bases up too bad.

Dangit, you guys that live near mountains make me so stinkin' jealous!!! Man, now I absolutely have to get a ski/snowboard trip lined up for this season or I'm going to explode.

I saw someone made a snow bike with like tank treads instead of a back wheel. It was pretty cool. Eventually it evolved into this.. I found a picture of the bicycle design a while ago, but I can't find it now.

With the skis cut short and the extra weight of the bike, do you think its enough surface area to stay on top of the snow?

Are those foam blocks or plastic, or painted wood the trucks are attached to?
I would remove the rear brake bosses, those would make a mean gash to the back of the head.
Nice chainstay protector

Very cool though. Get some action shots when the white hits the hills.

Will that actually work? I'm curious as to how well you will be able to keep your balance.
Nice job putting it together too, looks really cool
