Clipless or regular paddles

Hi, I am new to MT biking. Just bought a bike but does not have clipless paddles. I will do light XC biking and I was just thinking if I really need clipless paddles to enjoy the bike better? If so which paddles do you recommend that are light on maintenance and sturdy. And what type of shoe do you recommend as well.
Thanks in advance.

I'd stick with your regular pedals until you get comfortable on your bike, I suggest a good year! Learn to bunny-hop w/ regular pedals.

If you don't want to wait, look into any of Shimano's pedals. I personally use Time A.T.A.C.'s and highly recommend them. Also, Crank Bros. Eggbeaters get great reviews!

Shoes are a matter of personal choice. I have a couple of pairs. From $60 - $180.

If you want a good budget shoe, try Specialized website: www.specialized.com or www.pricepoint.com for a good combo deal.
