Got chased off the trail today..

We were at the local trails today, building some dirt jumps. It's technically illegal to ride out there, but I've never been bothered and TONS of people still ride out there.. but there aren't any signs. They are building an apartment complex on one section of the land, so I think that has something to do with them telling everyone to leave, but up until today I'd never seen anyone being told to leave or anything. I usually ride these trails during the morning hours after my classes let out since it's near my college. Anyway.. we were building some dirt jumps using logs and other material that had been illegally dumped out there anyway.. not harming anybody or even damaging anything. We built one jump that wasn't too big, and then we decided to make a big double jump with a smooth transition and a BIG takeoff. We had JUST gotten it to the point of being ridable when a white truck drives by on the road, stops, and then backs up and looks at us. I decided it was best for us to just leave rather than get arrested or cause a scene. So as we were riding out of the trails there was a police officer sitting on the side of the road, obviously looking for some guys such as myself.. but I don't think he saw us ride by. I doubt I'll be going back to these trails as often... it's not worth getting arrested or hassled. It's just a shame that an apartment complex is being built on some of the best trails in the Gainesville area. Urban sprawl sucks.

Jim, sorry to hear of the trail problems. Hope all is well with you guys otherwise. One of our local trails was shut down a couple of years ago because the property owner got the liability jitters. We had ridden there for several years and I think a relative must have mentioned the possibility of lawsuits if someone got hurt. All of a sudden all these signs went up all over the woods and trails.

I bet someone got the jitters there also. Shame though.

hey are you talking about the powerlines.
We got confronted by an old man and teenaged kid with rifles out there about 3 or 4 years ago. I have not been back since even tho I go back to Gville 2 or 3 times a year.

Yup, the powerlines. Now instead of unfriendly farmers it's unfriendly police officers and GRU employees.
