Tsali and Psigah

Hey,
My paps, bro, and i finally decided that we're going to go riding at Tsali and Psigah for our spring break and i'm wondering 1) If it's worth the drive 2)Where's the best place to stay in the right location so that we dont have a huge drive to one trail or the other and 3) How's the food?

also is there anything else to do there besides ride?

Are you camping? If you're camping, stay at the campground at Tsali.. its literally ON the trail.. and it's a nice place to stay. If you want to sleep in a hotel, there's a place just down from Tsali that's quiet and clean called "Freeman's Motel" that's great. I've stayed in both the campground and the motel and I like them both.

At Pisgah I stayed at Davidson campground.. aside from the showers being dirty as hell and the exorbitant price, it was a nice place, and close to the trail. If you need more info just ask.... I was at both Pisgah and Tsali like last month

Both places are great for riding. Accomodations are great if you're used to camping and getting dirty! Like Jim311 said, the campgrounds at Tsali are between the two left trails and the two right trails. No showers, but there is a lake, and a bike wash station. I'm cheap, so I've never done anything other than camping! Other things to do include hiking, rafting down the Nantahala (pretty tame!), some whitewater kyaking, horse-back riding....etc. It's close to Bryson City, and there are some food and lodging in that area. Cherokee is close, and a major tourist trap. The drive along the Blue Ridge is nice as well.

Pisgah Nat'l forest is just southwest of Asheville, so there is a lot to do there if you get tired of the "outdoors" stuff. More so than at Tsali. Of course there is a lot of activities you'll find in and around any National Forest. My wife and I like to stay at the campground directly across from the private hotel directly on the blue ridge (can't remember the name). It's between Brevard and Asheville on the Blue Ridge. This means, you gotta get in the car to drive to ....ANYTHING, but that's kinda the way we like it!

One of my all time favorite trails is the Fish Hatchery toward the Brevard Entrance. You can park in their lot and take a fireroad up up up and did I mention up. But the trail back is incredible with a stream crossing at the bottom for some cooling off!

I'd say it's definately worth the trip. My wife and I drive 12 hours to get to Pisgah, and feel it's worth it each time!

a2p tsali campground does have showers(and are talking of building more). You may have to stand in line or like me use the womens if its slow. But yes do stay at the tsali campground you wont regret it.Also a few minutes away towards nantahala outdoor center(NOC) is a nice place to stay.I cant remember the name of the place but they have yurts. Some kind of dome tents w/ hardwood floor, queen size beds, ceiling fan, fridge, very nice b'rooms 50 yds away. Also eat at NOC they have a couple good restaurants overlooking the river

Yeah, NOC is a fun place to hang out. You can go rafting, and they even have some mountain bike trails behind there as well. Haven't ridden them myself but they're supposedly good.

I haven't been to Tsali in a while I guess. My wife and I looked into moving to the Boone area, so most of our latest trips have been there or Pisgah.

All of western NC is great for riding. DuPont Forest, Pisgah, the ski slopes at Sugar and Beech Mtn,....etc.

I recently watched a videotape called Pedalling Pisgah, and it looked like a wonderful place to ride.

Are those yurts that you're talking about actual things that you can rent out?

Thanks for the info guys. It sounds like it'll be fun and the riding will be great. The rafting or kayaking seems like something that would be a lot of fun to do to. Now i gotta admit, i've only been camping once and that was just sleeping in a tent so if we do go camp it'll be an expereience for sure. How far away is Pisgah from Tsali? And how do the trails compare to each other?

Thanks

From Pisgah to Tsali is about an hour's drive, maybe a bit more if I remember correctly. It's not far.
